opinion: accuracy of newspaper articles

few weeks back an old wise man asked me to critique an article he had written. the article was science and agriculture related. he had asked several others for their views as well. i gave him my comments. one was the fact that he had not provided any citations. there were some controversial phrases and figures which i thought needed citations. and when i told him this he said "ah its for a newspaper!" [ ... ]
